Tips to Reduce Kid’s Boredom This Summer

Another school year has ended and kids will wait for almost two months before going back to school.

With this period, most kids feel bored by just staying at home and doing nothing except playing computer games and watching TV.

Just like Matt, he kept on asking: “Mommy, katagal ko naman po magkaroon ng pasok. Kailan po ba kami may pasok ulit?”

With this, here are some tips that could help kids reduce the feeling of being bored at home.

Summer Business.

Summer is definitely a very hot weather and selling stuff that will help ease the scorching heat of the sun will be a nice opportunity for your kids to earn few bucks while having vacation.

Ice and Ice candy is one of the hit items this season. If your kids can already manage to make halo-halo or mais con yelo is also another thing.

Sports Clinics.

Hyperactive and sports-minded kids can enroll in summer sports clinic where they can learn a lot on their favorite sports like basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, karate and others.

One of the most famous is the Milo Sports Clinic where techniques are being taught scientifically in every field of sports.

If budget is a problem, try to seek if some LGUs are also offering such trainings. Here in Marilao, the office of the vice mayor is offering basketball clinic for kids 5 years old and above.

Visual Arts and Crafts.

Kids gifted with very good imagination and skillful hands can attend art classes to enhance their talent and skills in this field.

Our sons love to draw but I think he is not yet ready to attend such classes because he is too young for now. We are planning to buy water-colors and other drawing materials for the mean time and will do this at home.

Crafting on how to make home decors for their rooms can be a perfect diversion too.

Once Matt is able to handle hooks and yarn, we will teach him the art of crocheting where he can also earn extra aside from selling ice and ice candy.

Summer Enhancement Class.

Some school offers summer classes to enhance their mind. This is very common to kids who will enroll this coming school year. Parent used to let their kids familiarize school environment in advance so they will not be in the “state of shock” on the school proper.

If budget doesn't permit, homeschooling is an alternative. Like for our son who loves to study even on vacation, Mommy made some lessons in writing and reading, have it printed and let this as Matt’s activity at home instead of playing his cars and sitting in front of the television the whole day.

Music lessons.

Some kids have exceptional talents and skills when it comes to music, either singing or musical instruments.

There are schools that will help them enhance their singing talent thru voice lessons. Who knows, one of your kids will be the next singing sensation.

If they love playing instruments, there are also schools that teaches kids to play such. However, you really need to invest a bit in this area since musical instruments are bit costy. For example: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/taylor-114ce-grand-auditorium-acoustic-electric-guitar/h79611.

A couple of years ago, we bought Matthew a simple electric keyboard that he might use in the future. A small guitar is next in the list. We are still looking for some donors, though. LOL.

Another way to avoid boredom is trying out some roller derby skates or quad skates, Skates HQ has some great resources which you can see on their website.

With such activities, days will be busy for kids without knowing their vacation is already over.
