On Summer Classes for Kids

The Keyboard
The other day, Mommy, me and one of our colleagues were talking about summer classes for our kids. According to our colleague, his son wants to enroll in a Taekwondo class. Without her knowledge, his son already singed the enrollment form and asking for the payment. She told us that she has no choice but to give him the enrollment fee. Still she's having second thought since just recently a minor died because of the boxing game in a inter-school sports event. I have heard also that some government officials is thinking of banning minors from joining sports that has sparring, and Taekwondo is one of these.

Since summer is here, I know there will be a lot of summer classes to be offered. Just make sure that the summer class you kids want to join is safe. Of course the class must be of their interest and in the case of our colleague, her son is persistent in joining the Taekwondo class. We just advice her to tell her son to understand the discipline of the Taekwondo teaching rather the physical game.

Now, this coming school year, our son will be in Kinder 1. But he will attend the 2-week summer class in preparation for the coming school this June. Mommy is telling me that if can already read, we will enroll her to piano lesson class since we have a simple keyborad like the cool cme keyboard from guitar center. This is one of her Mommy's frustrations - to learn the piano. I just hope Matt's fingers will not as short as Mommy's (LOL..Peace!).

How about you, what summer lessons or classes would you allow your kids to enroll with?

  1. In our case, we would just enjoy the summer by making many many memories of fun..hehe.. summer classes is not quite common in my town and Kristoff is not yet ready to take formal lessons. Learning a musical instrument is good and has a lot of benefits for the child.

Btw, How old po can enroll in KInder 1?

    1. Supposed to be, we are going to enroll Matt last school year pa, but the school does not offer nursery. We asked them if we can enroll Matt for Kinder 1 but they refused because masyado pa daw syang bata (turning three on June). Accepted daw nila 4 years na dapat before October.

I think there are schools that accepts as early as 2 years old.

  2. Haha, Ikaw daddy allan ha! Puwede namang magpiano kahit short fingers. My son studies aikido (he likes it better than taekwondo. it is a japanese martial art. think ramon tulfo defending himself before sinakal siya ni raymart hehe). It would also be nice for a preschooler to enroll him in arts and crafts.

Cguro, when it comes to martial arts, I will allow Matt when he can really understand the discipline and not just knowing the techniques. That's what I learned in our taekwondo class.

  3. Piano lessons will be good! I took lessons until highschool, but I haven't touched a piano in years. I miss playing. We are thinking of signing up for swimming lessons for adults - me for therapy, and the boyfriend so he can finally learn to swim! hehe

  4. let the kid choose what he would want to do! When he was so much younger, I chose activities for my son and worried that he quit along the way...I found out later, I chose activities which did not interest him! Children these days know what they want... we just have to guide them!

  5. Agree...Parang pagpili lang din ng course for their college yun. Just support them. This only reflects independence nila.
