Tutorial: DIY Felt Cloth Bow for Christmas Tree

Finally! I was able to post this DIY tutorial before Christmas, haha. By the way, I got the inspiration to make my own felt cloth bow tutorial from damasklove.com.

So let's go on with the tutorial, shall we?

First, here are what you need.

For easier measuring, here's a tip. Print first the 3 rectangular sizes into a board paper, cut and then trace it on the felt cloth.

Then cut the 1.5 x 6" rectangle like this.

I suggest you do the measuring and cutting first. Then you are ready to assemble!

Now, fold the 2.5 x 4.5: rectangle like this.

Then attach the 1.5 x 6" rectangle like this.

And then wrap the two together with the smallest rectangle.

You are done  with your DIY felt cloth bow!

That easy right? Now since I will hang these felt cloth bows to our Christmas Tree, I attached strings to it.

I made felt cloth bows in Christmas colors! The green felt cloth bows.

The lovely red felt cloth bows.

And the white felt cloth bows.

So nice right?

But wait till you see them on my Christmas tree!.

Love it!

It's very addicting to make your own Christmas. Read: CROCHET SNOWFLAKES ORNAMENTSSNOWMAN AMIGURUMI and DECORS AND ORNAMENTS: CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS.

Home Beautification and Christmas Decors

Almost a month ago, we started our home renovation/beautification. (Read: Groupon Helps Us Save With Our Home Beautification). Our home beautification involves wall repainting and some interior design, which Daddy A and I just think about, hehe. Anyway, let me share our almost finished living room that looked like this before.

And after some repainting and the addition of wood wall panel for our LED TV, it looks like this now.

Although we are not yet done, I am very happy with the outcome. Our living room looks so much better now. I just need a new set of curtains and sofa cover that I will make using my new sewing machine. Yes, I am so excited to play with my new toy, which I will share in the next coming days.

Anyway, let's take a closer look at our Christmas tree.

It's not yet done too as I will add pa these felt cloth bows that I made and will share a tutorial soon.

And also this crochet mini Christmas tree.

That is now half way done.

To complete our living room, Daddy bought a speaker with sub-woofer. And since we have a piano at home, I am planning to buy a yamaha mixer. Oh I can't wait to complete our home beautification. I would also love to show to you our kitchen and bed room.

Have you done home beautification too?

Typhoon Karen struck Central Luzon this weekend. I hope you are all safe.

I was thinking of a perfect afternoon snack that is steaming hot but still sweet. All in my mind is Ginataang Bilo-bilo. This is called paradusdos in our hometown.

How to Plan A Family Vacation

Who doesn't love taking vacations? If you ask a working mom like me, a vacation with the family is love. That's why I always look forward to holidays and long weekends. Aside from I get a chance to take a break from my work, it's an opportunity to spend quality time with my family, to bond together and visit the other parts of the country or the world.

Actually, we haven't experience a vacation away from home. But Daddy and I are planning to have at least one vacation a year. It's very important to plan a vacation ahead of time. Here's how to plan a family vacation.

Define a budget

Defining the budget is very important as this will determine the destination of the vacation. The budget should include transportation costs, accommodation, food, and activities or entertainment. Luckily you can fly to different parts of the Philippines like Boracay on a budget since there are affordable flights available.

Also, don't forget to include pocket money for buying stuff and pasalubongs, haha.

Pick the destination

As I have said, picking up destination will depend on the budget. But it is important to choose a place where your family can relax and make great memories by doing fun activities together.

Plan the date

The most popular time of the year for family vacation is summer during children's school break. But some also plan vacation on birthdays or anniversaries to celebrate or during holidays and long weekends. No matter what, choose the date that everyone in the family is available and comfortable of.

Book the flight

When you already have the budget, destination and date, it's time to book the flight. Booking in advance allows you to get the best fares and of course, save money. Like what I have said there are available affortable flights now. You can check Traveloka before your final booking.

Book the accommodation

Booking accommodation in hotel or resort ahead of time will save us time. You can browse online and compare prices and you can also look for good online deals to save money. Aside from the prices you must also consider it's location, safety and accessibility to city, malls, museums and tourist spots. For hotels and resorts, check if there's a free meal included and if there's a kitchen where you can prepare meals. Always dining in will be very expensive so if you can prepare your own meal, that's a lot better.

Plan your activities

Like what I have already said, family vacation aims to create great and fun memories together. So it's important that you plan your activities to make spend the most of it together. If you plan to visit museums or amusement parks, make sure you purchase tickets ahead of time. Ask your children what activities or places they want to visit because they are the ones who must enjoy the most, right?

Make a list of the things you need to bring

This is I think would be the last step but is as important as the above. Start to list down all the things you need to bring at least 2 months before the trip. The things you need to bring depends on the place and season, and also to the activities you will have. If you will travel in a cold place make sure you include jackets ans sweaters, or boots if it is winter. But if you will go to the beach, don't forget to bring swimwear, sunblock lotion and slippers.

Make sure to bring medicine and vitamins, and food. Before the trip, check all your passports and get visa if needed. Ask also your kids to make their own list and have it check. Remember to just pack just enough things you need and travel lightly.

That's wrap up how to plan a family vacation. Have I forgotten something? Please let me know other tips in planning a family vacation. I would love to hear it from you.

Random Thoughts of A Working Mom

I have been working for 13 years now, and I have been a working mom for 6 years already.

It's always been a roller coaster ride. There are so many times I have wanted to quit my job but still ends up choosing to stay. I have many valid reasons as a parent like me just want to give the best for our kids.

If you are like me who works full time outside work, you will understand how much time I sacrifice for my job. Though my job gives me financial security, I can't help but think if these are all worth it. I mean, being away from my son and those times I can't be with him to see his milestones and development.

Because time flies and one day, my son will be independent and will, but hope not, need my help. Just thinking about this makes me feel so sad already. Even if how much I tried to make up for the lost time, I could not get it back. That's why I always ends up feeling that mommy guilt when you feel you are failing as a mom. It's always the most painful feeling for every mother.

I thought I'll get over this feeling but now I am here again, caught between quitting and staying. In fact I never fail to browse on online job opportunities like the Triangle Direct Media jobs. I am giving myself a month or two to finally decide. For now, I have to leave it all to God because He knows what's best for us.

Penne Pasta Pie

Mommy loves to cook pasta, especially during the weekends, either for snack or dinner. I had to admit, I am not good in making spaghetti.

Last Sunday, since Mommy had some tasks to do upstairs, I made the spaghetti.

Penne Pasta Pie

I used penne pasta instead of the spaghetti. To give more twist, I made it like a cake by placing every piece of pasta upwards in a spring-form pan and baked it the lasagna way.

Doing this needs a lot of patience and needs to ensure that the “cake” will not sag.

Penne Pasta Pie

PENNE PASTA PIE

INGREDIENTS:
500 grams Penne Pasta, cooked according to package direction
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

For the meat sauce:
1 pouch (250 g) UFC Filipino Style Spaghetti Sauce
1 pouch (200 g) UFC Filipino Syle Tomato Sauce
250 grams ground pork or beef
4-5 pieces hotdogs, diced
½ cup red bell pepper, chopped
1 cup sliced mushroom
1 medium-sized onion
Salt and pepper to taste

For the cream sauce:
¼ cup butter
2 tbsp cooking oil
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup evaporated milk
½ cup all-purpose cream
½ cup cheddar cheese, grated

Additional grated quick-melt cheese for toppings

DIRECTION:
Toss the cooked pasta in oil and cheddar cheese. Set aside.

Prepare the spaghetti sauce:
Saute onion, ground pork or beef until meat turned brown.
Add hotdogs, bell pepper, and mushroom. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
Add spaghetti and tomato sauce.
Add 1 cup of pasta broth (water where the pasta is cooked). Simmer for 5 minutes.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the cream sauce:
Melt butter with cooking oil in a saucepan.
Add flour until formed a paste-like consistency.
Add evaporated milk, cheddar cheese, and all-purpose cream, simmer until thickens. Set aside.

Grease a spring-form pan with oil.
Fill the pan with penne pasta arranged in upward or vertical position.
Spread the cheesy sauce on top followed by spaghetti sauce.
Top with grated quick-melt cheese and bake in a pre-heated oven at 175ºC until the cheese melts and turns golden brown.
Remove from oven.
Remove the sidings of the spring-form pan before serving.

Christmas Countdown 2016: 95 Days to Go

I really can't believe how time flies. Did you know that we barely have 95 days before Christmas? Have you started making your Christmas gift list?

As I mentioned on my other blog. I have already started to make my Christmas gift list. And I out of my never ending list, I have decided on one gift and that's for Matthew.

I'll buy him a guitar first then the mini drum set that he's also asking me to buy for him. A simple guitar for now will do but who knows when he grows up, he can strum this taylor electric guitar.

Nice right? Matthew really loves to sing and having a guitar will inspire him to sing more. I am sure Daddy A will also love this idea of buying a guitar because playing a guitar is one of his frustrations dreams. Haha!

Oh, I still have a long list to finish. An with just 95 days to go before Christmas, I think I'll go with the Christmas rush. I hope not :)

Felt Cloth Bow Headbands

Hello everyone! Just want to share what keeps me busy these past days.

These colorful bow headbands are made of felt cloth attached in a thin band.

Aside from crocheting, I am also into felt cloth. I already posted the bow pattern here.

I made a set for Daddy A's niece.

Look how nice the bow headbands on her.

She made them into hair ponies too.

While I attached one pink felt bow to a hard headband.

So pretty right?

Here's another set of orders I made last week.

How I wish I have a baby girl too so I have my own model. Hehe!

You may see more of my felt cloth works in the coming days. Relatively much easier and faster to make than crocheting. But I still love to crochet and from time to time I accept orders.

By the way, I create a Facebook page to see more of our felt cloth works: www.facebook.com/feltwithlovebymomaye

Chemist Dad on Fashion Change

I’ve mentioned in my Chemist Dad's post that I already shed off several pounds. I also need to declutter my closet since most of the shirts I have seem to be large for me and mukang basahan na daw when I wear it.

Hitting this target gives me the confidence of wearing small size shirts. Mommy told me that I can already buy a shirt at least once a month. Though these apparels will be seldom used since we have uniforms at work, it is still a nice personal investment since you still need to wear casual clothing on other days like Sundays.

Chemist Dad wearing polo shirt

Since I am already in the mid-30s, need to change my fashion preference according to my age. I am already looking for shirt or polo shirt that is plain-colored or with a minimal print like cry baby shirt
Do you also change your fashion preference with your age?

Chemist Dad’s Father’s Day Wishlist

Father's Day, Father's Day Quote
via Pinterest

As we all know this month we will be acknowledging the pillars of our homes. We addressed them in many ways, daddy, dad, papa, tatay and much more.

Aside from greeting them a warm and lovely “Happy Father’s Day!”, giving them a special token can make their hearts grow. The usual gifts for this occasion are clothes, leathers, shoes, and accessories but here are other items in my list that you may also consider as token either for your dad or your hubby. Medyo may kamahalan nga lang. LOL

Stationary Bike or Treadmill
These past months, I am serious about my weight-loss goal. Though I am still far from my target weight, some already noticed that I shed extra pounds.

I don’t have enough time to do some cardio which I know will help speed-up in burning calories. Last month, Mommy and I were eyeing for a stationary bike or treadmill so both of us can do cardio activities even at home.

Mountain Bike
This item usually caught my attention every time I passed a bicycle store. Though the stationary bike is already enough, iba pa din ung lalabas ka ng bahay and take a stroll around the village or even to other places.

New sets of dumb bells
I have a two pieces of 10-pound weights at home. Since I added lifting weights with my weight-loss goal to tone muscles, the weights seem to be light already. This means that I need for an upgrade.

Instead of having a fixed weight, I suggest having the one with adjustable weights. In case you need for another upgrade, additional disks will be purchase instead of the whole set.

Speakers
I love watching movies at home. Our TV set is already enough and gives a nice picture quality but there are times the volume is too low and I need to set it at maximum level. However, during playtime, there are instances that I need to lower the volume because of the sound effects that suddenly increases.

With an external speaker installed, watching movies will be more enjoyed. Adding EQ software  can put your viewing experience to a different level.

Do you have any Father’s Day gift suggestions?

DIY Kitchen Organizers

Daddy A loves to cook and bake. So I can say that kitchen is one of his favorite spots at our home.

That's why the kitchen will be the next area we will renovate after our living room. But have noticed we have a lots of kitchen utensils that needs to be organized. So now, let me share some do it your self (DIY) kitchen organizers.

Cookware and pan organizers

This pull-out cabinet organizer is perfect in our kitchen since we have many pans. Also since you can pull and extend it, you will have easy access to cookwares.

source
I like this pegboard pot organizer. I can place it inside the cabinet or just hang it on the wall.

source
Or simply use an adjustable organizers like this.

source
Same with baking pans, you can use adjustable organizers.

source
Dish Organizers

If you have drawers, this is perfect. So nice, I'll make sure we'll include additional drawers when we have our kitchen renovation.

source
If you have drawers, this vertical rack will also do.

source
Or this hanging plate rack. So nice, but I'll wait till my son grows up. You know, kids are always curious and clumsy, haha!

source

Kitchen utensil organizers

For the knives, you can use this usual organizer.

source
Or this wall mount knife rack.

source
But I prefer to keep them safe with the other utensils like the spoons and forks inside the drawer. To keep it away from the eyes of my curious kid.

source
Daddy will surely love this. DIY measuring cups organizers with measurement chart.

source
Chopping boards can be stores like this using a rack mount on the door's back.

source

Spice organizers

We need a spice organizer like this rack because Daddy loves to cook and he has buys many spices.

source
This recycled crate spice rack that can be mounted on the wall is perfect too.

source
Or neatly keep them inside a drawer like this.

source
Or put them at the back of the door's cabinet like this.

source
But I like this the most. DIY test tube spice rack. Perfect for us since we are both chemist, haha.

source
Pantry organizers

If you are like us who store goods at home like canned food, this DIY canned food dispenser is love.

source
Or store them neatly using  clear jars and baskets with labels. So organized right?

source
You can organize your pantry this way too with this full extension drawer slides.

source
Kitchen appliances organizers

You can also use pull out shelves to store kitchen appliances for easy access and to save space if you have a small kitchen like us.

source
Or on metal kitchen shelves like this.

source
But this is my ultimate organizer peg. All in one kitchen organizer.

source
Whew! I have shared a lot but this one can store everything above, haha! Though I think, I have a smaller version of that cabinet organizer.

Before you do your kitchen renovation, let me just share what I just read. Did you know that the stove must not put across the sink? Take a look at this.
According to Feng Shui for homes, the stove is a source of the fire element and if it is placed across the sink, the fire energy will be drained, almost immediately, from our home. So make sure to place the stove on the opposite side.

Wow, that was fun! Can't wait to have our kitchen renovation.
