Facts You Need to Know About Teenage Dating in Digital Era

When you go through the articles about modern dating, it seems that there is no place for you if you are a teenager. Online dating is about serious relationships, as it seems quite unlikely that a Ukrainian or a Russian girl would date someone who is in his late teens. You need to have money to send her gifts and flowers, and your first offline date must take place in one of the best Kiev nightclubs. So, is online dating an adults-only phenomenon? To answer this question, we offer you to check out the list of facts about teenage dating.

Online Dating is Not You Piece of Cake
Seems like finding a partner via online services is really an adults-only thing. According to the 2015 Pew Research Centre's teen relationships survey, only 8% of teenagers have met their romantic partners online. Moreover, those 8 % have found their partners not through online dating services or apps, but through social networks like Facebook. But don't start thinking that it is some kind of injustice. The low percentage of teens searching for the partners online can be easily explained by the fact that teens have all the time that they need. High School is not the most time-devouring place in your life, besides you have a lot of people of your age around you that you can ask out. Adults have their work, which leaves little to no time for regular dating, which allows you to get to know your prospective partner. That's why they're much more into online dating, which can be done from the comfort of your home.

Social Media is a Platform for Flirting
Despite not being the platform for finding the partner, social networks often become platforms for teens to express their interest in their crush and for flirting. According to the 2015 Pew Research Centre's teen relationships survey, over 50% of teenagers befriended someone on Facebook or other social networks, in order to express their romantic interest. 47% of teenagers express their attraction by liking, commenting, or re-posting their crush's posts. At the same time, only 10% of teens flirt by sending flirty messages or sexy pictures of themselves. And 55% of teens prefer flirting with their crush face-to-face.

Texting is the Best Way to End a Relationship
Well, here is your big difference between teenagers and adults. A lot of adults start their relationship online, while 48% of teenagers tend to end their relationships via text messages. It seems like when we are teenagers we are afraid to end something in-person, while when we are adults we are afraid to start something in-person.

It is better to take your time and enjoy your offline dating, as you are unlikely to take your teenage years back. While you can ask someone out in-person – do it. While you can star relationship offline – do it. While you have a choice of whether to flirt online or offline, better stick with the second variant. It is always better to have a choice, so use it while you have it, as five years from now your dating is most likely to be limited to online platforms.
